Tagline – When life starts to imitate art someone isn’t going to survive.
An award winning screenwriter, who is recovering from an emotional breakdown, must figure out who is terrorizing her before she goes insane. (Thriller)
ANGELA RODRIGUEZ is an award winning screenwriter and former undefeated professional mixed martial arts fighter. She grows up being sexually abused by her father, ALEXANDER RODRIGUEZ, which causes Angela to battle depression and get involved in unhealthy relationships throughout her life.
Later in life, Angela marries DAVID STEVENS. After five years, Angela tells David she wants a divorce. He doesn’t take it well and a fight occurs where she almost kills him. After the incident, Angela suffers a mental breakdown and David is left in a coma. Angela attends weekly sessions with a psychiatrist, DR. JOHN RIVERS. He diagnoses Angela with depression and anxiety, which stems from her horrific childhood. This disorder makes it difficult for Angela to trust men, even MARK DIAZ, her current boyfriend. Her inability to trust Mark eventually drives them apart.
While Angela writes her newest screenplay, a thriller, centering on a serial killer, JOSHUA NORWOOD, disturbing and bizarre things begin to happen to her. In fact, some of the things in Angela's script are happening to her in real life. When Angela shares with Dr. Rivers that someone is terrorizing her, he isn't too sure considering her mental condition. Even her best friend ELLEN SANDERS is skeptical about this mysterious man.
Meanwhile, Joshua, the serial killer in Angela’s script, comes to life and convinces her that they have been friends since her childhood. He always comes to her when she needs him most. At first, Angela isn’t sure about what Joshua says: Is he real or a figment of her imagination?
One evening Angela awakens from a nightmare. When she opens her eyes, she is hit in the head with a pipe. Bloody, Angela awakens to find herself tied up in SHANE SHAW, her neighbor’s, basement. He has been the one terrorizing Angela because years ago she broke his heart when she cheated on him and ended their relationship. Joshua appears and Angela says: I knew you’d come. Help me get out of here.” When Shane comes back downstairs, Angela has broken free from the duct tape binding her legs and hands. She uses her MMA skills, beats Shane up, and kills him.
After the incident with Shane Shaw, Angela is in the hospital healing physically from the head wound. However, mentally and emotionally she is not well. She beats up two male hospital employees, fearing all men are going to try and hurt her. DR. DANIELLE FLEMING, who was the operating doctor for Angela, tells Dr. John Rivers, that due to Angela’s violence, she has to transfer her to a Pennsylvania mental institution.
Before Dr. Rivers takes Angela to the institution, Angela asks about Joshua. It is revealed by Dr. John Rivers that Angela created Joshua to “kill” people who abused or hurt her, but in reality Joshua killed no one because he never existed. He was only a character in her script and in her mind. Creating Joshua was Angela’s way of surviving the emotional pain from being abused by her father and David, and being betrayed by her mother.
Angela stays at the institution for a short time before she is transferred to the Sunshine Yoga and Meditation Retreat. A year later, she is released. Now, a totally different woman, Angela feels healthy physically, mentally, and emotionally.
